Panel probe on Shamna Tasnim death hints negligence

It is leant that a specialist invited before the panel did not agree with the suggestion of medical negligence.

Kochi: Though the two probes into the death of medico Shamna Tasnim are yet to produce a concrete result, it is understood that a member on the medical panel that is looking into the case of medical negligence headed by the District Medical Officer has cited medical negligence leading to her death. The member is learnt to have come to the conclusion that though it is natural that a patient can collapse after administering of an injection, the absence of the facility and quick response to deal with it is a case of medical negligence. It is leant that a specialist invited before the panel did not agree with the suggestion of medical negligence.

DMO Dr N K Kuttappan said that he was not in a position to reveal what the report contains. The DMO said that he could not submit the report to the city police commissioner on Thursday as he was preoccupied with the incident in which school children faced suffocation at Ambalamugal. He is expected to do it on Friday. It is also learnt that Joint Director of Medical Education Dr Sreekumari too has done justice to Shamna in her report submitted to the government on which the government is sitting citing one reason or the other, without taking any action.
