KSRTC buses collide in Chavara, 37 left injured

Most of them sustained face and limb injuries after hitting against iron rods inside the buses.

Kollam: Some 37 passengers were injured in an accident involving two KSRTC buses here at Chavara on Thursday. The injured, including ladies, have been admitted to the Karunagappally Taluk Hospital and the Vandanam MCH. The incident took place at Edappallykotta near Chavara by around 11.20 am when a Guruvayur-bound KSRTC superfast bus from Kollam rammed into a Kollam-bound ordinary bus from Kayamkulam. Most of them sustained face and limb injuries after hitting against iron rods inside the buses.

Eyewitnesses said the super fast that was in great speed lost control while taking over another vehicle and collided head-on with the ordinary bus that came from opposite direction. The injured include the bus drivers Satheesh Lal from Vizhinjam and Ramu of Rama Bhavan in Azheekkal here. Valsala and Baby Krishna who were seriously injured were admitted to Vandanam Medical College in Alappuzha. The stretch along the Chavara – Edappallykotta on the National Highway is notorious for accidents allegedly caused by unscientific curves.
