Kerala: Rivalry, plot for riot behind scooter-on-track' incident

The scooter was found near Chorode Overbridge, near Vadakara, on September 22.

Kozhikode: Police arrested three men on Thursday for placing the scooter of another person on the rail track and burning another man’s motorbike. Sajir (27), Kottikkollantavide Puthiya Purayil, Azhiyoor, and Muhammed Naseef (29), and Yasir Arafath (26), both from Vaikkileri Puthanpurayil, Vadakara Beach Road, will also be questioned by RPF and Central intelligence agencies, they said.

The scooter was found near Chorode Overbridge, near Vadakara, on September 22. The bike was destroyed after hitting by Jan Shatabdi Express and trains were stopped for 20 minutes. Police had suspected a sabotage attempt. However, soon, a complaint was filed by Jasir Pallithazham that scooter was missing. On the same day, his friend Althaf’s bike was burned.

Rural SP Vijayakumar said they were friends earlier and differences of opinion arose after Sajir was involved in clashes with another man, who later befriended Jasir and Althaf. In retaliation, Sajir sought the help of Naseef and Yasir to avenge Jasir and Althaf. Police said they changed the number plate of the scooter and placed it on the track to mislead. The move was also aimed at initiating a riot in the area. They were charged with attempt to sabotage and murder.
