WB police book murder case over Riti Saha's death

Riti Saha case is being closely monitored by DCP Vidyasagar Naidu

Visakhapatnam: West Bengal police have booked a case of murder under Section 302 into the death of Kolkata resident Riti Saha, who died under suspicious circumstances on July 14 at her college hostel in Visakhapatnam. She had come to the city for undergoing coaching for her NEET exam.

As part of their investigation, investigators from Netaji Nagar police station in Kolkata arrived in Visakhapatnam to take up their investigation. WB police have intervened after Riti Saha’s father Sukdeb Saha complained to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that he has lost faith in Andhra police.

Following the death of Riti Saha, Fourth Town police of Visakhapatnam city initially suspected that she has committed suicide and booked a case of suspicious death under Section 174 IPC.

Following investigations, Vizag police found that the management of the college and hostel had been negligent, which led to Riti Saha’s death. They then changed the section from 174 IPC to 304 Part 2 – negligence that could lead to death.

The Riti Saha case is being closely monitored by DCP Vidyasagar Naidu. He said: “We have found proof of negligence on part of the hostel in charge. Her viscera have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination. We will take further action after receiving the forensic report.”

The DCP is taking regular updates from Fourth Town inspector Srinivas, who is the investigating officer of the Riti Saha case.

Riti Saha’s father Sukdeb Saha is currently in Vijayawada, as he has filed a PIL in the AP High Court over the death of his daughter.
