Bengaluru: Cops scrap licences of 107 pubs and disco joints

The city police have carried out a crackdown on pubs and discotheques that were functioning without a licence.

Bengaluru: If you are planning to spend this weekend to party with your loved ones or shake a leg at a discotheque, better check out if your favourite joint still offers such a facility.

The city police have carried out a crackdown on pubs and discotheques that were functioning without a licence. As many as 107 pubs, disco joints and live music places have been slapped with notices by city police. They can now only serve food.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner (Crime) said, “In a major crackdown against pubs, discotheques running live music, in spite of their licence getting rejected, are being slapped with notices.”

These joints under licensing of places of Public Entertainment order 2005 have been served notice. The notice is nothing but cancellation order for violations in terms of live music, discos. These establishments can function as hotels, but without discotheques or live music, Patil explained.

Manu Chandra, the celebrity chef and Bengaluru Chapter Head, National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) stated that he is not aware of any such order yet. “I will find out though,” he added.

Police claim that it is part of their action to end the drug menace in the city. Most of the pubs and discos and live music joints have turned into dens of drug cartels.

“We are cornering drug peddlers and will not disturb those joints which are adhering to rules,” the police sources explained.

However, with 100 plus pubs, discos and live music bands turned into food restaurants, pub lovers are likely to miss their favorite joints.
