Redemption soon for Pangode road
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The tarring of the dilapidated Vazhuthacaud- Vettamukku road via Pangode military camp will begin in August, said PWD officials. The 4.1-km road, which also has poor lighting, was a nightmare for thousands of motorists who enter the city from suburbs like Vilappil and Vilavoorkal. “Some drain networks especially on the Vazhuthacaud side were to pass a decisive phase before road work could begin. Tarring will begin most probably next week and was halted for the rain to pass,” said PWD executive engineer A. Suresh Kumar.
At nearby Thirumala, the PWD had filled a few potholes granting temporary relief for commuters. Potholes were also affecting the transport of patients to two hospitals, including the Military Hospital. The road passes through arterial locations like Cotton Hill, Eswara Vilasom, Edappazhinji and Pangode.
“I had a hard fall into a pothole near military canteen that damaged my bike shock absorbers. We hope the work will begin soon,” said D.D. Deepu, a resident of Thirumala. Interestingly, the work on the shoulders of the road had originally begun in December last. However, with the work left halfway, it created concrete dust that affected two-wheeler riders at some locations. Rubbles were laid carelessly at Vettamukku junction causing minor accidents.
