Civic body lauches clean drive in Kozhikode

The city has been suffering from various communicable diseases during this monsoon including dengue, indigenous malaria.

KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode Municipal Corporation in association with various political parties, government offices, emergency services and people from all walks of life conducted a special clean drive at 14 major locations in the city to eliminate mosquito breeding spots. The cleaning drive was conducted as a preventive measure against the communicable diseases based on a direction from the health department.

The city has been suffering from various communicable diseases during this monsoon including dengue, indigenous malaria, viral fever, H1N1 and Shegella infections. As many as 1,900 persons including corporation councillors, other officials of the city corporation along with the volunteers from National Service Scheme (NSS), NCC, Kudumbashree, fire and rescue services department, Anganwadi workers, resident associations, political parties and NGOs took part in the single-day drive.

The cleaning drive covered the Cannolly Canal portions, major drainages etc in city and handed over five loads of non-biodegradable waste to ‘Niravu’ for disposal. Mayor Thottathil Raveendran inaugurated the special cleaning drive. District collector U.V. Jose, Deputy Mayor Meera Darsak, additional secretary Vinayan K.P., assistant divisional officer (Fire and Rescue) Arun Bhaskar, corporation health standing committee chairman K.V. Baburaj among others took part.
