Arrests are adjustments: Congress leader A K Antony

Congress leader Antony says CPM and BJP are readying for battle.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress party on Saturday lashed out at the CPM and BJP for unleashing violence in the state capital. Hinting at an escalation of their turf war, senior leader A. K. Antony said what was seen were mere "adjustment arrests" and the police should be given permission to act independently instead. "Never before has Thiruvananthapuram city witnessed prohibitory orders. Both the BJP and the CPM are worsening the situation, and even a slight spark can only aggravate the situation," said the former chief minister.

"They are readying their battalions to field in the battle (for supremacy)". Local legislator and former state Congress president K. Muraleedharan alleged that I. P. Binu, a CPM corporator booked for the attack on the BJP office, did it with the knowledge of his leaders. "The CPM is indulging in violence and protests to hide their failure in governance. Unfortunately, the BJP is taking undue advantage of the situation so that they can divert attention from the medical scam," he said. "It's a repetition of what is happening in Kannur."
