Vigilance quick verification against Tomin Thachankary
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has initiated a quick verification regarding various allegations against Transport Commissioner Tomin Thachankary, including using a particular company’s software for pollution testing centres and giving relaxations in fines imposed on some vehicle dealers. According to VACB sources, complaints regarding various decisions by Mr Thanchankary after taking over as the Transport Commissioner were received.
Vigilance director Jacob Thomas ordered the quick verification on the basis of these allegations. Meanwhile, there were unconfirmed reports that officials of the Transport Commissionerate were not cooperating with the quick verification by delaying the handing over of some files. The VACB special investigation unit – I is conducting the quick verification. One of the allegations was that the Transport Commissionerate had insisted that all pollution testing centres across the state should use the software of a particular firm.
Another allegation pertained to relaxation in the fine imposed on vehicle dealers for irregularities in sales. Meanwhile, Mr Thanchankary told a section of media that the allegations against him were part of a controversy being hatched by a section with vested interests. He said that he was open to any probe.
