Nizamabad: A family has eagerly been waiting for the return of their kin — Gulf migrant Gurijala Vittal, 31, of Mailaram village, Dharpally mandal, Nizamabad district — who has been stranded in Kuwait for five years now. Reportedly, he is facing criminal charges in Kuwait for an unknown case.
In search of livelihood, Vittal migrated to Kuwait in 2013 and obtained a Kuwait civil ID card no. 288062007537 for work. His civil card will expire on August 5. His passport number is K9468197.
Victim’s mother Gurijala Savithri and brother Ganesh approached the Telangana Gulf Migrants Welfare Association president P. Basanth Reddy on Saturday and urged him to ensure that Vittal returns safely.
In his conversation with this newspaper from Kuwait, Vittal said a false case was registered against him in 2015. “Certain Telugu persons in Kuwait asked me to sign a few documents to obtain a personal loan. I realised they filed a fabricated case against me as my loan repayment was adjusted with my wages,” he said, adding that he has been unable to return to India because of the police case in Kuwait. Ms Savithri pleaded the Indian Embassy in Kuwait and the TS government to rescue her son. “My son is innocent and illiterate, he should reach home safely”, she said. Vittal does not know what charges have been filed against him, and on humanitarian grounds, the central and state governments should take an initiative in this regard, she added.
