Chennai: Teen stabbed in spat over cricket ground
Chennai: A brawl among teenage schoolboys over space to play cricket turned near fatal for one of them after a group stabbed a 15-year-old with a broken bottle on the ground near Choolaimedu on Wednesday night.
Police sources identified the injured boy as Ruban Chakravarthy of Shakti Nagar near Choolaimedu, a class 10 student of a private school. On Wednesday evening, he was playing cricket with his group of friends at a ground there when another group descended there picking up an argument with them.
The other group claimed that Ruban and his friends were playing in their regular playing space and asked them to leave. A verbal duel ensued and in the melee, the boys ganged up against Ruban and started attacking him. One of them took a broken bottle and stabbed Ruban and they fled the scene.
Police were alerted and they moved the boy to a hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition. The boy sustained injuries to his left abdomen,
according to police sources. Meanwhile, Choolaimedu police picked up two teenagers, also school students, for questioning. However, no case was registered as both the parties arrived at a compromise, police said.
