Chennai: Model comes home after media storm

Chennai: Gaanam Nair (28), who had gone missing on Friday, was found three days later. Police said on Monday that the woman, who is said to be suffering from depression, had lodged herself at a friend's room in a hostel near Nungambakkam, 2 kms from her office.

The KK Nagar Police had been on the lookout for the marketing executive of a salon in Nungambakkam. She was also a model and photographer. Gaanam, who was living with her aunt in Virugambakkam, had left home on Friday around 11 am, but never reached office.

Worried friends and family approached the local police and also took to social media in the hope of tracing her. The post went viral on facebook and twitter. Meanwhile, KK Nagar police, who had formed teams to trace her, spotted her on Monday afternoon. Police said they had stationed men in areas the woman used to frequent in the city. “We saw her on the road, coming out of an ATM near a college in Egmore. We then trailed her to see where she was going,” M.S. Bhaskar, KK Nagar Inspector told DC.

The Inspector said that Gaanam’s friends were with the police too in the hunt. Around 2 30 pm, Gaanam returned home by herself even as the police were watching her movements. “She had decided to spend some time alone due to personal reasons and stayed at a friend’s room in a hostel near Ethiraj college”, a senior police officer said. After learning that the police were looking out for her and that her absence had gone viral in social media, she returned, police said.
