Heavy rains halt Hyderabad, officials ask people to stay home

HYDERABAD: Heavy rainfall lashed Hyderabad since late Sunday evening, causing traffic snarls at different parts of the city.

In an emergency advisory to people, the directorate of enforcement vigilance and disaster management has advised people not to step out of their home unless very essential for the next couple of hours.

Rains lashed several parts of the city from late evening hours accompanied with lightning and gusty winds on Sunday.

Areas such as Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Lingamapally, JNTU, Bachupally, Dhulapally, Pragathi Nagar, Uppal, Nacharam, Kothapet, Mallapur, Habsiguda, Nagole, Boduppal, Medipally, Kapra, Dammaiguda, Keesara, Mallapur, Begumpet, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Tirumalagiri, Karkhana, parts of Secunderabad received moderate rain showers.

Showers with gusty winds were also experienced in more parts of the city like Secunderabad, Shaikpet, Bandlaguda, Toli Chowki, Tank Bund, Film Nagar, Jubille Hills, Biodiversity, Film Nagar, Langer Houz, Nanakramguda, Manikonda, Asifnagar, Attapur, Rajendranagar, Khairatabad, Namapally, parts of old city.

A trough from east Vidarbha to north interior Tamil Nadu across Telangana and interior Karnata will continue to bring rains in the state.

As per the IMD reports, thundershowers with lightning occurred at many places in the state such as Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Jangaon, Karimnagar, Kumaram Bheem, Mahbubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Kamareddy, Mancherial, Mulugu, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Siricilla, Ranga Reddy, Sanga Reddy, Siddipet, YAdadri Bhvangiri.

Intense rains with thundershowers occurred at Vikarabad, Hanamkonda, Warangal towards late evening.

The TS Development and Planning Society reported highest rainfall of 47 mm in Kamareddy, followed by Hanumkonda at 46.5 mm and Jangoan at 46.3 mm.

The IMD has issued a yellow warning for the next five days asheavy rains accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph are very likely to occur in many districts.

The city will have a generally cloudy sky and light to moderate rains are very likely to occur in the next two days. The maximum and minimum temperatures are further expected to drop to 31 degree and 21 degree respectively.
