List small encroachments as well: CM Pinarayi Vijayan on Munnar

The chief minister is keen to take all sections on board while discussing the encroachments at the meet.

THIRUVANANTHPAPURAM: With Revenue department readying a list of small encroachers including those who had occupied more than 10 cents of land, the government wants to widen the scope of its Munnar operations. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who was accused of not backing anti encroachment drive in Munnar, has now intervened directly asking the district administration to prepare a detailed list of encroachments. He has asked the officials to include even small encroachments.

The chief minister’s direction comes close on the heels of revenue minister E Chandrashek-haran’s direction to prepare a list of big encroachers in the district.
Apart from encroachments, Pinarayi has called for details on land use, on going construction activities, buildings and their area and details of owners. The reports are being prepared ahead of the all party meeting convened by the chief minister here on May 7 to evolve a broader consensus on the issue.

The chief minister is keen to take all sections on board while discussing the encroachments at the meet. Apart from representatives of political parties, the government has also invited religious leaders, journalists and environmentalist groups to the all party meet for evolving a broader consensus. With the opposition UDF continuing to mount attack on the government and even accusing the ruling CPM of being the biggest encroachers in Idukki, it remains to be seen how the all party meet will reach a consensus on future operations.
