Puttingal panel knew about contest: Kerala

The court observed that the committee members cannot wash their hands off.

Kochi: The state government on Friday submitted before Kerala High Court that members of Puttingal Temple Management Committee, the accused in the fireworks tragedy, had complete knowledge of the fireworks display competition to be organised that day.

The court observed that the committee members cannot wash their hands off. It also orally observed that committee members cannot be granted bail at this stage and posted the hearing of the bail plea filed by Krishnankutty and P.S. Jayalal, management committee secretary of the temple, Prasad, Raveendran Pillai, Surendran Pillai, Somasundaran Pillai and Murukers key holders of the temple to next Friday.

The police submitted that all members of the panel were liable for the decisions taken, and activities taken and carried out by the committee. Each contractor have been given contract of Rs 4.10 lakhs for the competitive display.

Opposing the bail application the police informed that a large quantity of explosive substances and manufactured fire works have been brought to the temple premises for fireworks display in violatioin of the Explosives Rules.
