Heatwave conditions to continue, says MeT department
New Delhi: Heatwave conditions are likely to continue over several parts in central and east India till May 10, the MeT department has said.
“Heatwave conditions are likely to continue over parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, east Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha for the next 15 days (from April 26). Night minimum temperatures are likely to remain within the normal range outside western Himalayan region,” IMD said in a forecast.
The government had on Monday said heatwave claimed 4,204 lives in the last four years. As many as 87 sunstroke deaths were reported this year till March 31.
Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man died of suspected sun stroke in Kallara in the district on Friday, police said.
Sabu from Mundar in Kaduthuruthy was fishing in a stream when he suddenly collapsed and died on the spot around noon, they said.
His body had burn marks indicating he suffered heat stroke, police said, adding the exact cause of the death could be ascertained only after postmortem. Many parts of Kerala are reeling under heat wave conditions with soaring mercury levels in the past several days.
