Temples in Tamil Nadu serve food to lockdown-displaced people

More than 1000 people being fed by temples since the lockdown put thousands out of work

Chennai: Temples in Tamil Nadu have stepped up to provide food to people displaced by the coronavirus lockdown. On an average over 1,000 persons are being given food packets by temples in Chennai since Saturday.

"The food is hygienically prepared and neatly packed in banana leaf and paper," said a senior officer of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments.

Some of the Chennai temples serving food thus are the ancient Sri Kapaleswar temple, Sri Parthasarathy Swamy temple, Vadivudai Amman temple and Andavar temple.

Similar initiatives have been taken up in Madurai, Palani, Tiruchendur, Samayapuram, Marudumalai Sankarankoil, Madurai, Srirangam, Tiruverkadu and Koodal Azhagar.
