AP Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, very much impressed by the world famous giant Ferris wheel “London Eye” decided to establish similar giant wheel at Amaravati. He experienced the London eye during his recent visit to Britain. He announced the construction of similar giant wheel at Amaravati on the banks of Krishna river.
The Delhi eye on the banks of Yamuna river is the only giant wheel in India with a height of 200 feet. Another giant wheel, Kolkata eye, is proposed on the banks of Hoogly river that would be 426 feet tall. Amaravati is going to become the tallest giant wheel of India if it is built taller than the two giant wheels.
The London eye is situated on the south bank of Thames in London. Similar situation prevails in Amaravati. The new capital Amaravati is coming on the south bank of Krishna river. The islands in the middle of Krishna river including Bhavani island are other attractions of the proposed Amaravati eye.
The tourist activity has increased with 45,000 tourists visiting old Amaravati and adjacent tourist places last year. Of them, 1,000 were foreigners. The Amaravati eye would attract tourists from across the globe turning Amaravati into a universal tourism centre. The public in the villages of Amaravati Capital Region want to know about the London eye and are discussing the proposals in the local meetings.
A tourist operator, D. Rama Rao said that Amaravati eye would surely be the main attraction of the New Capital attracting local, national and international tourists.
