Karimnagar: Mudavath Ramulu and his wife Laxmi, who were convicted and jailed for their role in killing of their daughter-in-law, have reunited after serving life term for over 15 years at different prisons here on Tuesday. While Ramulu was freed from district jail, his wife was out from special prison for women at Chenchalguda of Hyderabad.

He is a resident of Bavaji Thanda in Gundaram village of Yellareddypet mandal. They along with their daughter were sentenced to imprisonment for life and were imposed a fine of Rs 500 for eliminating their daughter-in-law in 1998.

The 75-year-old man could meet his wife as authorities of the prison  arranged a vehicle to bring her here from Hyderabad. They were also gifted new clothes by prison officials.

“Ramulu missed the opportunity of getting released twice in the past. He was anticipating his release from the last one-and-half month. He wanted to meet his wife as soon as he is released, but he cannot move without support of a person as he had paralysis.

His 65-year-old wife too was excited to reunite after a gap of 15 years and four months. But, she cannot travel alone, considering her age. So, we decided to provide transportation facility to her,” said N. Shiva Kumar, superintendent of district jail.

Killer cop is also released

A former head constable of police, Abdul Qadeer, who had shot dead the Assistant Commissioner of Police Chatrinaka Sattaiah was also one of the convict released from Cherlapally  jail on Tuesday. Qadeer, who was convicted for life, had been in prison for over 25 years.

Officials said that Qadeer has been released on Tuesday evening. Qadeer, who is now, 55 year year old, had been suffering from various illness including diabetes. One of his legs was amputated due to gangrene in 2012. According to officials Qadeer shot Sattaiah when they were out on round in the curfew-bound areas during the December 1990 riots in old city.

Qadeer was arrested on the spot and was booked in sec 302 of I.P.C, and sec 27 of the Arms Act. While the prosecution had argued in the court that he killed the ACP due to communal hatred, his defence had argued that Qadeer was mentally disturbed due to the ongoing communal riot.

When the incident occurred Qadeer was married. In his 25th year in prison he was the longest serving inmate in the jails of AP and Telangana.
