Thiruvananthapuram: The railway officers employed in Mahe railway station spend their insecure night hoping for the best, as they are expecting attack from anti-social elements who throng the station in an inebriated condition. The station does not have a police aid post and Mahe, known for its cheap liquor, has witnessed many such incidents where passengers, employees and building were attacked during odd hours.
The All India Station Masters' Organization has already expressed their concern to higher railway officials and the government. In a memorandum, the organisation demanded a permanent police aid post in the railway station. Recently two gangs during a clash barged into the railway station, manhandling staff, attacking buildings and threatening passengers, according to officials.
Mahe station master P Mohanan told DC that each day the staff are expecting some kind of a violence from the gangsters. "Though there is an aid post of Railway Protection Force (RPF), it is insufficient to deal with the gangsters as RPF has its own limitations", he added. Though police has registered a case on the recent attack, it will not dissuade the regular boozers who create trouble to ordinary passengers", he added.
