Open drain not closed for past 10 years despite pleas to GHMC

Traders complain that local representatives and GHMC officials have inspected the nalla repeatedly for the last ten years but did not act

Hyderabad: A drain that has been kept open for the past ten years right at Mallapally-Vijayanagar junction is of serious concern to both traders and passersby. The junction that has commercial shops, hotels and supermarkets and connects traffic to the Asifnagar-Vijaynagar side and Mallapally big mosque has a heavy traffic flow.

Traders complain that local representatives and GHMC officials have inspected the nalla repeatedly for the last ten years but did not act. “We have given several requests to the GHMC but there was no response,” they said.

Vijay Agarwal who had run the Sanjay Tiffin Centre said he had a good business in the past, but once the nalla remained open right before his shop, he had to close the food outlet.

“It's a small work. Just fix a new line, raise the level and connect the drain’s flow to the line on the other side of the road. I do not understand why the GHMC is not responding to our requests. I have seen more than five persons severely injured when they fell into the nalla along with their bikes,” said S Srinivas who runs a grocery shop very close to the nalla.

“The local corporator does not allow us to meet the GHMC officials when they come to inspect the spot,” he said.
