Bisi Bengaluru: Where to go in 2018 18 till we die!
We’ve done a complete about face this year, from molecular gastronomy to fusion, finally, things seem to have settled down in the foodie arena to get back to the more classic tried and tested formula of wholesome cuisine. With the year 2017 going to back basics in terms of food, we decided to bring on 2018 with the 18 dishes you must have this year… some healthy, some gluten free, mostly delicious and worth that saunter to. Some are old, some ring in the new as is tradition, some places appear more than once, and others are just soul food.
The Smokehouse Company’s Gambas Pil Pil is perfection dunked in the softest of breads — Pink-orangy fresh prawns cooked in the kick of smoked red jalapenos, baby shallots, garlic pods in a saliva inducing sauvignon blanc and garlic butter, decadent. Try the Smoked platter as well, with a beautiful tossed coleslaw in mustard… a kashundi meet tang punch … With baby back ribs.
Do try the Salmon and Cream cheese sandwiches and the Eggs Florentine at at SmokehouseDeli, perfectly plated, delicious and fresh. 5 The Chorizo and Udon at Toast Tonic is spectacular and Chef Manu Chandra has a few other dishes that you should have here, like the bulgogi beef burger and the ramen.
The dimsums and sushi at 1Q1 does deserve a nice plateful to satiate your tastebuds.
Try a new dish that is not available elsewhere in the city, the Ceviche at Sly Granny, and ask for the original and not the Indianised one.
Must have the Spaniard pizza at the Pizza Bakery, delicious and yummy. Ask for a burrata on it, its spectacular.
The Beef medallions at Sunnys are to die for, for their juicyness and their flavour.
Fava and Chef Abijeet are known for their gourmet dishes and we loved the carpacchio and the juicy cheesy tenderloin burger.
For a good burger, Thulp is good, and has a variety one can choose from.
You must have the Spicy Beef Soup at Thran in Kamanahalli, and the small Korean hub has many other dishes on the menu that tingles those tastebuds.
The Prawn Ghee Roast at Anupams Coast to Coast is to die for, delicious with some neer dosa, simple soul food.
Thitti Pandi at The Coorg Food Company is tangy with Kachampulli and moist pork made the way the Coorgs love it.
The Fish Factory’s veloute sauce with the catch of the day is something you must have. It’s delicious and made right in front of you… live.
Donne Biryani at Shivaji Military Hotel always comes on this list, and so does the mudde and mutton chops. A must-have for those that love Karnataka style thindi. 18) Dosas at Chalukyas and Veena Stores or Vidyarthi Bhawan are crisp, full of Benne and the chutney served at each of these places is unique and yummy.
