HMDA plans to turn Durgam Cheruvu bridge into a tourist spot

Two muscial fountains to be set up on either side of the bridge

Hyderabad: In a move to enhance public attractions at the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge, the HMDA is undertaking seating arrangements for people to enjoy musical fountains that are to be set up soon.

According to the details made available, 50 seats will be in place for the 20-minute musical fountain show, three of which will be run between 7 pm and 10 pm on weekdays and four on weekends and public holidays.

Officials said that the Durgam Cheruvu bridge boasts the longest precast segmental span among concrete extradosed cable-stayed bridges in the world.

A few weeks ago, the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of the HMDA, invited bids for setting up, operating and maintaining two musical fountains on either side of the bridge, at an estimate of Rs 8.03 crore.

The seating arrangements are estimated to cost an additional Rs 53.1 lakh.

While bids for the installation of fountains are currently underway, the HMDA also opened bids for the seating arrangements, which will have to be set up within three months, from the date of the agreement.

“To begin with, 50 seats will be installed on either side of the bridge and based on the response, the number of seats will be increased. The nodal agency has already invited tenders and once the project is completed it would further enhance the iconic bridge besides attracting tourists from all over,” an HMDA official said.

While calling for bids to install fountains, the HMDA set a one-month time limit to set up the project. Agencies will be shortlisted based on design concepts, detailed drawings of layouts and a visual presentation by a technical committee. The selected agency will undertake the operations and maintenance of the structure for three years.
