Rain havoc in Nellore and Prakasam districts

Buchireddypalem mandal recorded the highest rainfall of 14.2 cm followed by 10.5 cm in Atmakur

Nellore: Adding to the grievances caused by the recent rains, heavy rainstorms lashed several parts of SPSR Nellore district during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday.

Buchireddypalem mandal recorded the highest rainfall of 14.2 cm followed by 10.5 cm in Atmakur, 9.7 cm in Kodavalur and Sangam, 9.6 cm in Vidavalur, 9.4 cm in Nellore city, 9.3 cm in Kovur mandal. With regard to other mandals, Allur and Naidupeta recorded above 8 cm rainfall while Anantasagaram and Indukurpeta recorded above 7 cm. In other parts of the district rainfall was measured anywhere between 1 cm and 6 cm. The average rainfall in the district was 5.6 cm.

Several mandals in Prakasam also recorded rainfall on Sunday with Chirala recording 5 cm, followed by 4.5 cm in Vetapalem, 4.3 cm in Singarayakonda, 3.7 cm in Ongole and 3.3 cm in Zarugumilli from 8.30 am to 4 pm.

With heavy rains forecast for the next four days in south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chittoor district, the district administration in Nellore, Chittoor and Prakasam districts alerted the special officers to take measures necessary to protect life and property in vulnerable areas.
