Thalassery to have a green birthday
Kozhikode: Youngsters in Thalassery in association with the Municipality are all set to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the municipality by beautifying the place with paintings on all its walls, which will speak about the need for environment protection. The mission that has already started as a pilot project, aims to highlight that the beauty of a city lies in the hands of its residents and youngsters and all it takes to keep the city looking pleasing and clean is a little effort.
The mission is mainly adopted by the students of Government Brennan Training College and Brennan Higher Secondary School along with KIWIS venture nature forum and Thalassery Municipality. Talking about the initiative, Municipality chairman CK Rameshan said, “Our mission is to encourage our people to keep their city beautiful by painting graffiti on walls that have been left to ruin. Once these walls are beautifully painted, they will give a facelift to the city,” he added.
“We want to expand our horizons and spread awareness among the youth to protect the environment, keep it clean and beautiful. Engaging youth in environmental protection creates direct impact on changing youth behaviour and attitudes. With this campaign we would like to reach out to the youth, educate them, spread awareness about how important it is to keep one's city beautiful and clean as they are the future generation who will build a beautiful world,” Mr Rameshan added. “The initiative has been started as part of celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Municipality, where we will initiate more similar programmes with the involvement of youngsters to make the city beautiful,” said Vice Chairperson Najma Hasim.
