Kerala High Court adjourns V A Zakir Hussain's bail plea
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday adjourned the bail application of CPM leader Zakir Hussain. He is an accused in a case relating to the abduction of a Kochi-based businessman. The court posted the case to Thursday for detailed hearing. Mr Hussaid was remanded to district jail. His remand period is set to expire on December 1. The High Court had earlier dismissed Mr Hussain's anticipatory bail.
Mr Hussain moved the High Court after the Ernakulam principal sessions court dismissed his bail petition. The sessions court observed that police not seeking custody is not a ground to grand bail. Police claimed that the former Kalamssery area secretary of CPM is involved in 13 criminal cases registered in several police stations in the District. CPM removed him from the post after the allegations surfaced and police registered an FIR.
Police claims that Mr Hussain absconded soon after the FIR was lodged. Palarivattom police registered case against Mr Hussain after Jube Paulose from Vennala, filed a complaint alleging that Mr Hussain had threatened him demanding to withdraw from a business deal with one Sheela Thomas, a native of Kakkanad. Mr Hussain informed the High Court that the case registered against his was politically motivated. He argued that the alleged incident happened in June 2015 but the complaint was filed only on October 27, 2016.
