Edu pie' for Class X verification
Anantapur: Online system cannot curb irregularities in the education department as the authorities were charging Rs 100 for every Class-X student for verification process from private schools. Every high school must send nominal rolls of Class-X students to the Directorate of Government Examinations to get hall tickets for annual public examinations.
Earlier, headmasters used to submit manual nominal rolls, ICR forms at the office of the District Educational Officer (DEO) of their districts. The state government introduced the online system from the present academic year. “Now, there is no need to verify attendance and admission registers, as the schools are uploading students' details up to date,” a source said and added that the government itself prepared ICR forms and school would upload only photograph and signature of the candidate for the annual examinations.
However, the education department staff, including the office of assistant commissioner of examinations, has found new ways of corruption. “They are demanding '100 per student for the verification process and the schools also, separately,” the source said and pointed out that although the Prime Minister was taking step to curb corruption, “we are encouraging students to pay bribe to get clearance for their annual examination.”
Another correspondent from Hindupur area noticed even online process could not stop corruption and demanded the government to get rid of verification and it could collect online fee challans from the schools to curb irregularities. When contacted, Anantapur DEO Samuel said he would enquire into the issue. “We don't spare anybody for such ugly corrupt practices. Stringent action would be taken if school correspondents bring this to my notice,” he said.
