Drones set to monitor risky' areas in Sabarimala temple

Meanwhile, as many as 200 additional police personnel have been deployed at Sannidhanam and near-by premises.

Kochi: Drones equipped with cameras will be operated from a control room starting from December one to continuously monitor six areas in and around Sabarimala temple notified by the Intelligence agenies as “high threat zones”. The cops can watch the live images at the screen in the control room at Nadapandal, equipping them to take quick remedial action in case of emergencies. Already 35 CCTVs have been set up at various points along the trekking path which are continuosly monitored at the Police Centre in Pamba.

“This includes Pamba, Marakootam, Saramkutty, U-Turn, Nadapandal, 18 holy steps, Sopanam, Malikapuram, Panditadam among others,” police said. Meanwhile, as many as 200 additional police personnel have been deployed at Sannidhanam and near-by premises. “This includes 12 personnel to help more devotees climb the holy 18 steps at a time. “On an average around 90 pilgrims are passing through the holy steps in a minute,” police said.
