Bengaluru: 2, including a techie, die in car crash, 2 other friends injured

Bengaluru: Two men, including a software engineer, died on the spot, while two other occupants in the car sustained grievous injuries when the car they were traveling in crashed into a tanker on Mysore Road around midnight Sunday night.

The deceased have been identified as Ranjit, 27, a software engineer with Accenture who was driving the car, and Vinod, 27, a self-employed businessman, both of whom residents of Kengeri Satellite Town, the police said. The two injured, Shashank, who is from Pune, and Harivardhini, a resident of Bengaluru and hailing from Chennai, have been admitted to Fortis Hospital and are said to be out of danger, the police said.

The accident occurred around 11.45 pm in Sheshagirahalli under the Bidadi police limits. It was the marriage of Ranjit’s sister on Sunday and his friends, Vinod, Shashank and Harivardhini had come to Kengeri Satellite Town to attend the wedding.

In the night, after their dinner, the four friends decided to go out and have coffee at a Café Coffee Day outlet near Bidadi in Ramanagar, the police said. When their car was heading towards Bidadi, a tanker that was taking a U-turn at an intersection in Sheshagirahalli came to the road’s extreme right. Ranjit who was driving the Swift car lost control and crashed into the tanker killing both him and his friend, who was sitting on the front seat, almost instantly. As they were not wearing seatbelts, the airbags did not deploy, which could have saved their lives, the police said.

Shashank and Harivardhini, who were sitting in the backseat were tossed inside the car and sustained grievous injuries. Passersby informed the police, who rushed to the spot, summoned ambulances and shifted all the four to nearby Rajarajeshwari Hospital where Ranjit and Vinod were declared brought dead. The other two were shifted to Fortis Hospital where their condition is said to be out of danger, the police said.

Traffic was disrupted on Mysore Road near Bidadi for a while until the police cleared the tanker and the mangled Swift car. The tanker driver has gone missing.

The Bidadi police have registered a case of accidental death due to rash and negligent driving and have seized the tanker. They are hunting for the absconding driver.
