Warangal: The accused in the murders of nine people which created a sensation in May this year has been convicted and sentenced to death by a trial court.
On initial discovery of five dead bodies inside a well on May 21, the police had registered a case of suspicious death.
However, the case was cracked by the police on the basis of CDR (call data recording) and CCTV footage. According to investigation officer in Geesugonda, Shiva Ramaiah, Sanjay Kumar Yadav rented a two-room house in Geesukonda mandal, Janpaka area, and was living together with Rafika. After he killed Rafika by throwing her out of a train and made up his mind to eliminate the entire family who threatened to complain to the police if he did not reveal Rafika’s whereabouts.
Yadav first did a recce of a warehouse from May 16-20. Knowing that May 20 was the birthday of Maqsood's grandson, he picked the date to execute his plan. He bought about 60 sleeping pills on May 18 at a medical shop at Warangal chowrasta. He added sleeping pills to the food prepared for the party.
When all the people were unconscious, he carried them to the well one by one and dumped them between 12:30 am and 5:30 am. Then he went home.
“There were no CCTV cameras around the warehouse. However, we found out through Maqsood's call data that Yadav called him around the time of the party. When we checked the CCTV footage between Janpaka and Gorrekunta, he was seen at Venkatrama junction leaving from Janpaka on the evening of May 20 and returning during the wee hours of May 21. We nabbed him and interrogated him and he confessed to the crime,” Ramaiah said.
