Lady doctor shows mettle in IPS

A doctor who aced the civil services test and was selected for the IPS training, the mother of a five-year-old wants to become a role model for women.

Hyderabad: Dr Amrit Duhan, the only woman IPS probationer from Rohtak, Haryana, has bagged three trophies at the police academy, including one for second best all-round probationer.

A doctor who aced the civil services test and was selected for the IPS training, the mother of a five-year-old wants to become a role model for women. “There is nothing like gender when it comes to IPS training. All are treated equally and everyone has to undergo all training courses,” she said.

Her husband, Dr Vijay Kumar, lives in Haryana where their son Samar Vijay attends school. “We are not allowed to stay with families on campus, so I got to meet them once in a while,” Dr Duhan said.

Asked if she felt it was difficult after coming from a comfort zone, she replied. “It is adventurous and more women should come forward. One should listen to their inner feelings and understand what they want to become,” she said.

Dr Duhan’s brother Vinod Duhan who is also an IPS official inspired and encouraged her, she said. Dr Duhan also won the 1973 batch IPS Officers Trophy for the best all round lady IPS probationer and the 1958 batch IPS Officers Trophy for the best lady outdoor probationer apart from the Shri Bhubananda Mishra Memorial Trophy for the best second best all round probationer.

TS gets three IPS officers, four allotted to AP

The Telangana state is facing shortage of IPS officers with the increase in the number of districts from 10 to 31. The Centre has allotted three IPS probationary officers to the state. Four IPS officers have been allotted to AP. Of the seven IPS officers allotted to the Telugu states six are B .Tech graduates and one is an MBBS. They are three from Telangana state and one each from AP, Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Maharashtra.

Potharaju Saichaitnaya who is native of Andhra Pradesh is allotted to TS. Y. Rishanth Reddy, a native of TS, is allotted to AP. Rajesh Chandra and Sharat Chandra Pawar belonging to TS have been allotted to their home state. S. Satish Kumar of TN, Vakul Jindal of Punjab and Dr. Sumit Sunil Garud of Maharashtra are allotted to AP.

TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao a few months ago met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested him to increase the IPS officer’s strength from the present 112 to 141.

After increasing of number of districts Telangana state are required 42 IPS officers additionally. The Police officials of Telangana are not happy over not allocating more IPS officers to the state.
