Thrissur: ABC surgery on 107 dogs till September
Thrissur: Out of the 4,000 street dogs in the Thrissur corporation limit, the civic body has conducted ABC surgery on 107 dogs till September. The surgeries started a few months ago at Pravattani ABC centre. “We have four staff to catch dogs at night and at a time 64 dogs can be kept at the ABC centre. The focus of the progarmme was to catch the stray dogs from near the meat and vegetable markets and the sterilized dogs were let free at the locations from where they were caught after post-surgery care of three days,” Mayor Ajitha Jayaraj told reporters on Friday.
Veterinary doctor Sudheesh Kumar who is heading the project said that after conducting the ABC surgery the dogs would turn less ferocious. On the waste management project, deputy mayor Varghese Kandamkulathi said that the civic body had held discussions with more than 10 firms for generating electricity from waste and would soon make a decision on implementing such a project.
“On November 1, the corporation will set up a committee headed by councillors in all the 55 divisions to collect plastic waste from a group of 50 families each. This could be a solution to the burning of plastic waste on road sides and compounds of residents and shops flouting the HC order,” Mr Kandamkulathi said. A mobile unit for collecting waste will be set up for the same, he added.
