No probe against Kerala police chief Loknath Behera

The VACB said in its report that though many police stations were already painted as per the order, the brand prescribed in the order were not used.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The enquiry commissioner and special court (Vigilance) here rejected a plea to register a case against State Police Chief Loknath Behera in connection with the alleged irregularities in prescribing a specific brand of paint for police stations. The court rejected the plea considering a report of Vigilance. It admitted the vigilance’s view that the brand was mentioned along with colour code in order to avoid confusion in colour shades prescribed for all police stations.

Activist Paichira Navaz had filed the petition seeking investigation into the allegation against Behera. Behera had issued the order on April 28, the last days of his first term as SPC, prescribing uniform colours to all police stations. Along with the name and code of the colour, the name of a specific brand was also mentioned. The matter became controversial as T P Senkumar, during his second term as SPC, sought remarks from AIG headquarters on a newspaper report alleging corruption in Behera's order.

The VACB said in its report that though many police stations were already painted as per the order, the brand prescribed in the order were not used. This vindicated that there was no ulteriour motive to favour a specific brand of paint for all police stations. While olive brown was prescribed for exterior, chill morning colour was prescribed for interior.
