Malappuram: The second phase development of Adyanpara hydel tourism project which is a part of Adyanpara hydroelectric power project near Nilambur will be complete by December. The Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEBL)-owned tourism project adjacent to the Adyanpara waterfalls attracts thousands of visitors every year. The gardening, fencing and construction of toilet blocks are progressing fast and will be completed within two months, authorities said.

The Rs 3 crore tourism project named Cream Cascade was first opened on March 2016 by then minister of electricity Aryadan Muhammed as part of an additional revenue generation attempt by the KSEBL. Along with visiting the waterfalls, visitors can also watch closely the functioning of the hydropower project. A 15.8 meter high three-storey watchtower is also open to visitors. A two kilometre–long road has been built around the power project site so visitors can walk.

This is the state’s only tourism project attached with a power project. The 3.50 MW hydel power project set up in Kanhirapuzha near the Adyanpara waterfalls was launched in 2015 to resolve the electricity shortage in Malabar districts. This was the first hydro project which was completed within the stipulated time at a cost of Rs 27.09 crore.
