Under National Digital Literacy Mission, Mukhra village sets an example in Telangana
Adilabad: The Mukhra (K) in Ichoda mandal which was a sleepy village till recent past has transformed into a modern village in Adilabad district achieving total digital literacy under the National Digital Literacy Mission. Mukhra (K) village has been merged as the 4th digital village in Telangana.
People of Mukhra (K) now get updates on weather, crops and bank loans on their cell phones by registering with the Common Service Centre and introducing English medium in their government school.
The village development committee (VDC) has succeeded in its efforts to bring back students to government schools studying in private schools by imposing Rs 1,000 fine on parents if they send their children to private schools.
The student strength at government primary school increased to 93 from 37 this year and no child from this village is now studying in private school. The VDC is looking after all the affairs of the village and its people.
In aunique feature, the village is conducting community marriages as a policy to create a feeling among residents that they all were equal. Both rich and poor have to perform amarriage to their prospective as part of community marriages.
The Mukhra (K) village has 160 houses coming under the Dharmapuri gram panchayat reserved for Scheduled Tribes President of VDC Gadge Deepak of Mukhra (K) village said the collective decisions taken at VDC have brought discipline among the villagers. They have been observing liquor ban in their village for the last 15 years as it is labelled a social evil that ruins families.
Members of the VDC convinced the parents not to send their children to private schools in Ichoda town crossing the National Highway-44 and there is the possibility of road accidents while crossing the national highway.
The VDC has engaged two Vidya volunteers for imparting knowledge. They are paid salaries of Rs 50,000 each for a year for teaching students in English medium in addition to two government teachers working at a government school in the Mukhra village.
