Hyderabad: Taxman held for Rs 50,000 bribe

The CBI booked a case against him after they received a complaint from a chit fund firm owner alleging corruption charges against him.

Hyderabad: CBI sleuths arrested S. Chandra Shekar, Superintendent (P&I), Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax, Karimnagar, while he and his colleague, were taking a bribe. The CBI booked a case against him after they received a complaint from a chit fund firm owner alleging corruption charges against him.

According to the complainant, Chandra Shekar, had demanded Rs 50,000 for closing a tax evasion case against the complainant’s firm.

After registration of the case, a trap was laid and the accused along with his colleague Raffiquddin were caught red handed while demanding and accepting the Rs 50,000 from the complainant through their conduit. The sleuths of CBI arrested both the accused after following all legal formalities. Further investigation is underway.
