MBBS admission: Christian medical colleges to stick to Rs 5 lakh fee

Inter-Church Council spokesperson Mr George Paul told DC on Monday that the decision of the Christian managements revealed their social commitment.

Kochi: Despite the Supreme Court order fixing the fee at Rs 11 lakh, the four Christian medical colleges have stuck to their stand that they will be charging only Rs 5 lakh in 85 percent seats and Rs 20 lakh in 15 pc NRI seats as decided by the Justice Rajendra Babu Committee. Inter-Church Council spokesperson Mr George Paul told DC on Monday that the decision of the Christian managements revealed their social commitment.

“We have long been standing against cross-subsidy and have been giving scholarship called freeship up to 10 percent students also. Yet we were attacked by certain quarters. With the Supreme Court verdict everything comes in black and white. Moreover we have informed the government that we are ready to set apart Rs 5 lakh additionally collected in each NRI seat as scholarship for BPL students as wanted by the Justice Rajendra Babu Committee,” said Mr George Paul.

“I find this as an exemplary act on the part of the Christian medical managements to stick to their Rs 5 lakh fee structure which will be a great relief for meritorious ordinary students in the current circumstances. They stuck to the tradition of the Christian institutions in the education sector,” said educationist Rajendran Puthiyedath.
