Kulathupuzha to get satellite dairy units
Kollam: The Kerala Livestock Development Board, in its attempt to promote milk farmers in the district, will start satellite dairy units under its hi-tech farm in Kulathupuzha. The farm will also sign an MoU to start courses related to dairy farming. The programme will be inaugurated by Minister for Forest K. Raju at the farm in Kulathupuzha at 2.30 pm on Tuesday. The programme, as part of social responsibility, will include selected farmers from panchayats including Kulathupuzha, Thenmala, Aryankavu, and Chithara. These farmers will be given financial aid to purchase more cows and will be included under the‘Gosuraksha’ insurance scheme.
The cows under the satellite units will be provided with ‘cow cards’ to monitor productivity and maintain it scientifically. A ‘milk farmers help centre’ will be set up along with the farm to benefit farmers, students, and young entrepreneurs. The Board will start education programmes under the ‘advanced livestock centre’ in distance and regular modes in association with the Kerala Veterinary University, to promote entrepreneurship in the dairy field.
