Kerala hotels to display GST rates

The move is in view of the skyrocketing of the hotel bills after implementation of GST.

THRISSUR: The Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has asked its members to display the GST rate levied from the customers and the price board in hotels. This is in view of the skyrocketing of the hotel food prices after the GST implementation and several hotels allegedly collecting GST from customers even without doing GST registration. It may be recalled that the Thrissur- based Kerala Hotel Consumers Association had asked the hotel and restaurant owners to display before the hotels the GST they are collecting.

"The hotel association will ask its members to display the GST collected in their hotels. The hotels should also print their GST registration number on the bill," Mr Moideenkutty Haji, president of Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association, told DC on Monday. The consumers association members had said that displaying GST would help to avoid the confusion over the bill.

Mr Haji said that the five percent GST to be collected in hotels with a turnover of Rs 20 to 75 lakh was not collected from the customer and that the hoteliers pay it as a compound tax. "At present, 12 and 18 percent GST is collected for non-AC and AC restaurants respectively and it will be mentioned in the hotels," he noted. Mr K. Radhakrishnan, president of the Kerala Hotel Consumers Association, said that the customers can seek its help over the helpline number 9400191726.
