Chennai IT employees union sees red in pink slips

68 \\total number of petitions under section 2A of ID act.

Chennai: Amid employee fears of IT layoffs and industry body Nasscom dubbing the retrenchment news as exaggeration, the New Democratic Labour Front (NDLF), IT employees wing, has strengthened the fight against IT companies.

Members of NDLF who had filed a petition last month about the unethical layoffs and employee harassment, on Monday shot a letter to the joint commissioner of labour stating several demands.

“Hundreds of IT employees complained to us regarding practices on IT campuses. CTS employees told us that anybody with top rating was not assigned projects and their profiles were locked. They were also threatened by the HR to submit resignations,” said vice president, NDLF, Kasirajan.

He further added that Wipro employees were targeted for various reasons based on predetermined targets by top management and were rated low without any regard to their past records, regarding the preceding quarters or length of service. Sixty-eight employees from Wipro filed petitions under section 2A of Industrial Disputes Act against the unethical layoffs and employee harassment.

NDLF received similar complaints from Capgemini, Infosys and Tech Mahindra.
“My company asked me to submit a resignation to get a project and promised me that the resignation can be taken back within 10 days. However, after 10 days, they denied of having promising anything of that sort. So, instead on terminating, they have showed that I voluntarily resigned on the papers,” said K. Balasubramanian.

He filed a petition in May and the company agreed to take him back. However, they have refused to pay any compensation amount.

The demands put forth by NDLF to the TN Government represented by the labour department include provision of immediate relief for employees who filed petitions against forced resignations, direct the IT companies to submit the details of resigned employees from January this year and provision of access to employee performance records citing which the employees are threatened.
