Cochin University of Science and Technology pins high hopes on NAAC visit
KOCHI: The students and staff of Cochin University of Science and Technology are having high hopes as a team of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) begins a visit of the varsity on Monday. NAAC is the highest body of evaluation for universities and colleges in the country and good NAAC rating is essential for the smooth flow of UGC, MHRD and RUSA funds for the university’s various research projects
The team led by the chairperson, Prof. Subbanna Ayyappan, former director general of Indian Council of Agriculture Research, will have Dr Satish Ramnath Shetye, vice-chancellor, Goa University, Prof (Dr.) M.R. Pranesh, former professor of Ocean Engineering, IIT Chennai, Dr V. K. Mehna, director(Rtd.), Exam Reforms, UPSC, Prof. Karmeshu, professor, School of Computer and Systems Science, JNU, Prof. Muthukalingan Krishnan, head, Dept. of Environmental Biotechnology, Bharathidasan University, Prof. N.P. Shukla, former chairman, Pollution Control Board, Madhya Pradesh, Dr. D. N. Jauhar, former vice-chancellor , Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, Prof. S. K. Singh, former dean and head, Institute of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu University, and Dr. Sujata P. Shanbhag, Deputy Adviser, NAAC, as members.
During the visit of NAAC team, the members will assess and evaluate teaching and curricular activities, research work and extension & infrastructure facilities of the university. They will hold meetings with the vice-chancellor, heads of the departments, deans and other members of the university. They will also examine all records maintained by the university. “Cusat has been dedicatedly preparing to receive the peer team members on its campus with its best efforts,” said Dr. S. David Peter, Registrar of the varsity. The visit will conclude on September 1.
