Kadapa corporation masons concerned about their jobs

APCOS decided to hand over duties of masons currently working in sanitation department to them, provided they work as sanitation workers

KADAPA: Masons working on an outsourcing basis with sanitation departments of various municipalities and corporations in the district are upset over being asked to work as sanitation workers or quit their jobs.

An ultimatum in this regard has already been given by Andhra Pradesh Corporation for Outsourcing Employees (APCOS).

As part of reforms, 100 secretariats had been set up two years ago in 50 divisions of Kadapa city. Each secretariat is to function under a sanitation secretary. APCOS decided to hand over duties of masons currently working in sanitation department to them, provided they work as sanitation workers. Authorities did not back down despite protests by masons under auspices of various trade unions.

Officials warned that masons who refuse to work as workers will be terminated.
Masons have complained that the situation is similar in all municipalities of the district.

Another concern of municipal workers is their family members being given an opportunity to serve as outsourced sanitation workers in case any of them die by accident or natural causes. Since implementation of APCOS policy, about 60 sanitation workers have passed away due to various reasons. Their kin are appealing for employment in their place on compassionate grounds.
