Public rescue team in all districts soon: K T Jaleel

Initially, 150 people were selected from Palayam market, SM Street and Velliyangadi, and were given training.

KOZHIKODE: In times of disaster or any calamity, saving even one life is a big deal, said K.T. Jaleel, Local self government body minister. He was speaking after the launch of the second batch of the Community Rescue Volunteer Scheme envisaged by the Fire and Safety Department on Friday at Kakkodi Grama Panchayath. The services of the Community Rescue Volunteer Scheme would be extended to all Districts in the State, he added.

Initially, 150 people were selected from Palayam market, SM Street and Velliyangadi, and were given training. The members were trained by firemen in handling fire- fighting equipment, their installations and evacuation measures to be undertaken during an emergency. This was later extended to the Kakkodi Grama panchayath. The minister also assured that money would be sanctioned for the smooth functioning of the Community Rescue Volunteer Scheme.

“At the time of atrocities or mishaps, a rescue team among the public is very crucial, as they can assist fire and safety department officials to fight these mishaps”, he said. In all the major mishaps that have been reported from Kozhikode district, fire officials have played a big role, but during instances when officials reach the spot late, the rescue team can play a leading role there and that is where the scheme comes in.
