Kerala: Students skip self financing colleges

Only 13 of the colleges got more that 60 per cent admissions.

Thiruvananthapuram: After the third round of allotment, the last round of allotment to private self financing colleges only 32 private self financing colleges in the state has more than 40 per cent admissions in government quota. Of them only 13 has more than 60 per cent admission. As many as 11 colleges have an admission less than five percentage admission. There are a total of 151 colleges in the state including nine government, three aided colleges, 25 government-controlled self financing colleges and 114 private self financing colleges. The loss in demand of the engineering seats in the state as shown in the high number of vacant seats would mean that many of the colleges would face a close down in the near future.

The list of 11 private self financing colleges with less than five percent of admissions are as follows: Aaryanet College of Engineering, Palakkad-Vacant seats-157, Total seats- 165, (4.85% admission), Younus College of Engineering, Thalachira-vacant seats- 64, out of 67, (4.48%), Pinnacle School of engineering, Anchal –Vacant seats-159 of 165, (3.64 %), Matha College of engineering, North Paravur, 191 out of 198, (3.54%), Jai Bharath College of engineering, Perumbavoor, 176 out of 182 (3.30%), Mount Zion Engineering College, Chengannur 128 of 132 (3.03%) SHM College of engineering, Kadakkal, 161 of 165 (2.42%), KITS Engineering college, Kottayam, 226 of 231, (2.16%), Axis College of engineering, Thrissur, 226 of 231 (2.16%), Prime College of Enineering., Palakkad, 115 of 117 (1.71%), Hindusthan College of Engineering, Kollam, 131 of 132 (0.76%)
