BJP trying for scam cover': Kodiyeri Balakrishnan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Friday accused the BJP-RSS of unleashing violence to divert the attention of people from the multi crore medical college scam involving top leaders. At a press conference, Mr Kodiyeri said the MCI scam was only the tip of the iceberg. There are reports about hawala transactions involving party leaders and bribery even for army postings. BJP workers were held recently for printing fake notes of Rs 2000 denomination. He said the party’s image had taken a hit following the cases of corruption and it was desperate to deflect the issue.
“The manner in which the attacks were carried out clearly pointed to a conspiracy. It was BJP which started the attacks leading to a chain of incidents in city and other parts of the district,” he said. Mr Kodiyeri said the houses, vehicle and other property of Chala block president S. Unni, CPM chala area commite secretary S. A. Sunder, council Razia, district committee member S. Pushpalatha, Karmana Hari and councillor I. P. Binu were damaged in the attacks carried out late last night. There was a plan to attack AKG Centre. However, owing to police presence, they abandoned the plan.
The CPM state secretary alleged that the attack on the house of his son Bineesh Kodiyeri was with the intention of targeting him. "The BJP RSS people know that I often stay here,” he added. The CPM state secretary alleged that the violence had been planned by the state leadership with the blessings of BJP national leaders. “There is a clear pattern of targeting CPM across the country. RSS activists barged into AKG Bhavan in Delhi with the intention of attacking party general secretary Sitaram Yechury,” he said.
Mr Kodiyeri said CPM had lost 13 of its comrades after the LDF came to power in May 2016. Scores of houses had been attacked by the RSS in various parts of the state. The CPM state secretary said the all party meeting convened by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had decided against attacks on houses and party offices. "It was the BJP which first violated this agreement and targeted party offices. The CPM state secretary said there was a clear attempt to create disturbance in the state and unleash propaganda about breakdown of law and order. He alleged that RSS activists from outside were also camping in the district to create trouble. Kodiyeri said the CPM would cooperate with all initiatives taken to restore peace.
