Mahasweta Devi is irreplaceable: M T Vasudevan Nair
Mr Nair said, adding she possessed the ability to communicate, across languages and cultures, the hard realities of the lives of India's downtrodden.

Tirur: Mahasweta Devi was more than a writer and was a great social activist who dedicated her life for empowering the dispossessed, litterateur M.T. Vasudevan Nair has said. “Her death is a loss not only to literature but to the whole country,” he told a literary gathering at Thunchan Parambu in Tirur on hearing about her demise.
“She was critically ill when I heard last from her,” he said. “The news of her death is hard to believe. She literally lived with the tribals and worked for their betterment, besides being a wonderful personality. She is irreplaceable.” “We were close friends and it is painful to come to terms with her departure,” Mr Nair said, adding she possessed the ability to communicate, across languages and cultures, the hard realities of the lives of India’s downtrodden.
