SPF Head Constable Dies In Service Weapon Misfire in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A 49-year-old head constable of the special protection force (SPF) died from a bullet wound suffered in an incident of weapon misfiring, when it was being handed over to the reliever at the Mint Compound. The police registered a case of suspicious death.

The deceased was identified as Ramaiah, 49, a native of Laxmepat in Mancherial.

The Saifabad police said that Ramaiah discharged night duty at the Mint compound and upon finishing his duties around 8 am on Thursday, took out the service weapon to hand it over to the reliever when a bullet pierced his chest.

“The security staff noticed the incident and shifted Ramaiah to a private hospital in Nampally where doctors declared him dead. Immediately, the Saifabad police were alerted by staff and the police and clues team visited the place for collecting clues,” a police officer said.

Statements of the security staff, who noticed Ramaiah lying in a pool of blood, were recorded.

The police questioned the staff on the premises, collected CCTV footage and shifted the body to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
