History-sheeter held at gunpoint near Kanchi
Chennai: The Kancheepuram district police arrested a history-sheeter and extortionist, and his nine associates, at gunpoint on Thursday.
According to police, B. Lenin (28) of Naduveerapattu village near Somangalam is a notorious gangster and was wanted for murder and attempt to murder cases by Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli district police.
“Lenin, who was hiding in Kancheepuram district had been extorting money from entrepreneurs in Somangalam, Manimangalam and Oragadam areas. He has been threatening them with dangerous weapons,” police said.
Following complaints, Kancheepuram SP Santosh Hathimani formed a special team under ASP Rajesh to nab him. Based on a tip-off, police team had scoured Somangalam area and found Lenin's hideout. “As the gang has been wielding weapons, the police team surrounded the hideout with guns and arrested Lenin and nine others at gunpoint,” the police said. Meanwhile, police also announced that any persons affected by Lenin and his gang could file complaints. “The identity of the complainants will be kept secret,” police said.
