Hindu outfits clash with Left groups in Palani

A Hindu group prevented a vehicle transporting cattle to Pollachi and took the mini-truck to the police station.

Madurai: Police resorted to mild lathi charge to disperse clashing members of some Hindu outfits and Left parties members when they pelted stone against each other in connection with a dispute over transporting cattle in a vehicle at the pilgrim town of Palani on Wednesday.

A Hindu group prevented a vehicle transporting cattle to Pollachi and took the mini-truck to the police station.

They alleged that heads of cattle were being taken in the vehicle violating the rules.

Palani is known all over the world for its hill shrine of Lord Murugan, the much revered deity of the Tamils.

When members of Left parties, VCK and SDPI learned about it, they rushed to the police station. Meanwhile members of the BJP also came to spot.

The two groups engaged in heated arguments which resulted in a clash. Police resorted to mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control, sources told .
