Cancer survivors get 250 natural Tangled' hair wigs

It was a part of Tangled 2017, a hair donation annual flagship initiative.

Chennai: In a move to extend support and honour cancer survivors, Green Trends Salon, in association with Raj Hair International, donated 250 natural hair wigs to cancer patients at Adyar Cancer Institute on Wednesday.

It was a part of Tangled 2017, a hair donation annual flagship initiative. “Chemotherapy drugs are so powerful that they attack all the cells in the body including hair roots.

This condition is called Alopecia and numerous attempts made to reduce this reaped limited success”, said Dr T.G. Sagar, Director of Adyar Cancer Institute.
Tangled started at Women’s Christian College and spread its wings across the city.

Meera, a BBA graduate from WCC, said the reason to start this is that women lose self-esteem and do not feel confident to step out when they lose hair. While more than 32,000 people donated hair last year, this year it doubled, as a result of which 250 natural hair wigs could be made.

George Cherian, MD of Raj Hair International that manufactures wigs, said the wigs were conducive for any weather. “A natural hair wig costs Rs 15,000 and so mostly victims opt for synthetic wigs that are not very healthy. The wigs we donated are sanitised and refurbished,” he said.
